| Description: | MUC5AC (Mucin 5AC) is a secreted mucin expressed by columnar mucous cells of the surface gastric epithelium, as well as goblet cells in fetal/precancerous colon, but not in normal colon cells. MUC5AC is highly expressed in carcinomas where the type is defined as diffuse and infiltrative, and those located mainly in the antrum. Additionally, MUC5AC has been linked to mucus hypersecretion in pulmonary tracts, leading to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. |
